The integrated storage system is designed to cover 100 % of the demand with the energy generated by the PV system during the summer. During the rest of the year a little additional energy has to be purchased from the grid.
Regardless of the time of energy production, the storage provides the energy generated by the PV generator to electrical appliances. Supply and demand can be adjusted to each other. Battery energy storage systems designed to support large-scale energy storage are used to help balance supply and demand on electrical grids. Customers rely on these systems to store excess energy produced during periods of low demand or when renewable energy sources, like solar and wind, are generating surplus power.
However, such storage systems become vi-able and economically reasonable only if the grids have to carry and distribute large amounts of vol-atile electricity from REs. The fi rst demonstration and pilot plants are currently under construction (e.g. in Europe).
