Angola 100MW energy storage power station

Furthermore, Angola's Ministry of Energy and Water has identified nearly 100 locations to produce up to 600 MW of renewable electricity from mini-hydro power stations – which will each have a capacity of less than 10 MW – throughout the country's vast river network.

Angola is working hard to increase its power generation capacity by boosting hydro and solar energy, as well as linking and expanding its electric grids. This will create more sustainable income sources, promote the global energy transition, increase the country's exports and modernise the economic possibilities of its citizens.

As part of the 2025 Vision, the Government of Angola has set targets to install 100 MW of solar capacity, of which 30 MW will be off-grid. France's Total Eren – a subsidiary of Total SA – in collaboration with Greentech-Angola Environment Technology are collaborating on the construction of a 35-MW solar power plant in Angola's Huila Province.

Meanwhile, significantly contributing to Angola's current installed capacity of 5.6 GW, the 750 MW Soyo I combined cycle plant is currently generating 500 MW of electricity. Plans are currently underway to develop a second Soyo combined cycle plant, which will contribute an additional 750 MW to the country's grid.

For the country to support new production capacity, power transmission infrastructure in Angola will have to be enhanced.

By 2026 Angola expects to have its largest solar project ever. In June 2023, the Export-Import Bank of the United States of America qualified a record USD 900-million loan to build two solar facilities with a combined capacity of 500 MW in the provinces of Malanje and Luanda.
