Energy storage is used to facilitate the integration of renewable energy in buildings and to provide a variable load for the consumer. TESS is a reasonably commonly used for buildings and communities to when connected with the heating and cooling systems.
The applications of energy storage systems have been reviewed in the last section of this paper including general applications, energy utility applications, renewable energy utilization, buildings and communities, and transportation. Finally, recent developments in energy storage systems and some associated research avenues have been discussed.
It is possible for an energy storage system with a good storage technology to perform poorly when implemented with a suboptimal architecture, while other energy storage systems with mediocre storage technologies can perform well when implemented with superior architectures.
Besides, CAES is appropriate for larger scale of energy storage applications than FES. The CAES and PHES are suitable for centered energy storage due to their high energy storage capacity. The battery and hydrogen energy storage systems are perfect for distributed energy storage.
