To properly examine an energy-optimised network, it is very crucial to select the most suitable EE metric for 5G networks. EE is the ratio of transmitted bits for every joule of energy expended. Therefore, while measuring it, different perspectives need to be considered such as from the network or user's point of view.
More than half of EU Member States have not yet launched 5G commercial services, whereas the first commercial services were available in South Korea and the US one year ago. The share of the subscriptions using 4G networks is around 70% in Europe in 2019, significantly lower than in the US, China and South Korea, where it reaches around 90%.
