Cuban rooftop photovoltaic solar panels

Cuba began the construction of 59 photovoltaic solar parks with the idea of reducing dependence on fossil fuels and creating other wastelands in which clean energy is the main resource for electricity consumption. Of these 59 solar parks, it is expected that: 33 are completed within the current year, synchronizing with the national energy system.

Also included in the project works is the construction of two solar photovoltaic power plants in Las Tunas Province in Cuba's eastern region, where flat, unshaded terrain affords an optimal environment for harnessing solar energy.

The objective of the solar park plan in Cuba is the construction of a total of 92 photovoltaic installations which, according to the official schedule, should be completed before 2028. Each of these parks would have a capacity of 21,87 MW, which would allow for an estimated total generation of around 3.400 gigawatts/hour per year.

Cuba will have 55 new photovoltaic solar parks in the course of next year, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez said on Thursday. According to the national energy transition strategy, the installation of 92 parks is planned until 2028 to provide more than 2,000 megawatts (MW) of power, the foreign minister noted on X.

The solar panels are suitable for both for domestic and com systems and for distribution throughout the country. It's a win-win situation.” The output will increase coverage to some 130,000 people. In order to encourage the transition to solar energy, the Cuban government is heavily subsidizing the cost of the PV panels and solar heaters.

The solar panels used in the project are partly produced by the Cuban Electronic Industry -70 percent of all the solar panels were assembled in Pinar del Río, and 100 percent were installed by the Copextel company ran by the Ministry of Computer Science and Communications (MIC).
